A Meeting between Somaliland Trade Union Federation and Ministry of Labor, Social Affairs &Family

PRESS STATEMENT

The Somaliland Trade Union Federation (STUF) warmly welcomes and highly commends the important meeting held today at the conference hall of the Ministry of Labour, Social Affairs and Family – Republic of Somaliland. The meeting brought together the leadership of the Ministry and the heads of national trade unions and was led by the Chairperson of the Trade Unions, Mr. Abdilahi Ibrahim Mohamed.The meeting focused on strengthening the system for the registration of civil workers and the protection of their rights. It is of particular importance to trade unions, as it promotes transparency, fairness, and full compliance with the country’s labour laws.STUF firmly believes that a comprehensive and official registration system will serve as a strong foundation for safeguarding workers’ rights, reducing labour disputes, and building trust among workers, employers, and government institutions.The Somaliland Trade Union Federation extends special appreciation to the Deputy Minister of Labour, Social Affairs and Family, Hon. Mohamed Muse Galaydh, who officially opened the meeting and announced the national plan for the general registration of civil workers. This represents a historic step that will significantly contribute to the improvement of Somaliland’s labour system.Furthermore, the trade unions express their gratitude and appreciation to the Director of the Labour Department and all departmental staff for their preparedness and continuous efforts that ensured the successful organization of this meeting. This clearly demonstrates the vital role the department plays in developing the labour framework and regulating trade unions.The Federation also extends its sincere thanks to the Director of Prosecutions and the Head of the Civil Workers Registration Office, who clearly highlighted the importance of worker registration in resolving labour disputes and ensuring the protection of the rights of all concerned parties.The Somaliland Trade Union Federation (STUF) emphasizes that meetings of this nature provide a valuable opportunity to strengthen cooperation between the Ministry and trade unions, and to build a labour system that protects the interests of national workers, ensuring they are given priority over foreign workers.Finally, the leadership of the trade unions reiterates its commitment to playing an active and meaningful role in the registration of civil workers. Likewise, the unions stand ready to cooperate fully with the Ministry in providing any necessary facilitation and support.
