About Us
The Somaliland Higher Education Teachers Union (SOMHETU) is a national trade union that represents lecturers and academic staff working in higher education institutions across Somaliland. The union was established to promote unity among university teachers and to safeguard their professional, economic, and social rights.
SOMHETU operates in accordance with the labor regulations of the Ministry of Employment, Family and Social Affairs and adheres to internationally recognized labor standards set by the International Labour Organization.
The union serves as an umbrella organization that brings together higher education teachers under a shared professional identity, enabling them to work collectively toward improving their working conditions, strengthening the quality of higher education, and contributing to national development.
