Objectives
STUF strives to improve the rights, conditions, and power of workers while actively contributing to national development. Its core objectives include:
A. Labour and Industrial Objectives
1 To mobilise and support the formation of sectoral unions across all professions (teachers, health workers, construction workers, hotel staff, transporters, etc.).
2 To promote, protect, and advance the economic, social, and political interests of workers in Somaliland.
3 To safeguard employees’ rights in the workplace, including decent wages, job security, occupational health, and safety.
4 To ensure non-discrimination and inclusive union membership, regardless of gender, political opinion, or background.
5 To promote collective bargaining and sustainable industrial relations between employers and employees.
6 To establish partnerships with international and regional trade unions, particularly within the African continent.
B. Community Engagement and Development Objectives
7 To advocate for gender equality and women’s empowerment within the labour force and union structures.
8 To support the education sector through the facilitation of vocational training and skills development for youth and workers.
9 To initiate and support small business and microfinance projects, particularly for low-income workers and informal sectors.
10 To lead community awareness campaigns on labour rights, legal literacy, health, and civic responsibility.
11 To organise public discussions and civic forums for inclusive dialogue on issues affecting workers and the broader community.
